Week 40 October Wedding!….50 Ancestors

Hello,

For this week’s 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks the theme is October! So I pulled up my list of family and scrolled through to find an event in October.

Abraham Reeves & Eliza Smith were married on the 7th of October 1850. Abraham was born in 1828 in Awsworth, Nottinghamshire and was baptised on the 4th of May 1828 at St Peter’s Church in Awsworth. His parents were Thomas Reeve & Elizabeth Limb. Eliza was born in 1831 in Hucknall Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire (now known as Huthwaite) and was baptised on the 19th October 1831 at St Mary Magdalene church, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Her parents were Henry Smith & Sarah Allsop.

They had 9 children including my great, great grandfather Sampson Reeves born 14th November 1867 in Hucknall Huthwaite, Notts.

In the 1881 census, Eliza is the head of the household but still showing as married, living still in Hucknall Huthwaite with her 5 youngest children. Abraham has literally disappeared off of the face of the earth. I have searched high and low for him in the 1881 census without any luck. This one is a big brick wall for me, I know he hasn’t passed away as for one it doesn’t say Eliza is widow and also Abraham reappears in the 1891 census back with Eliza, still living in Hucknall Hutwaite with their 3 youngest children.

They were married for 41 years and sadly later on in 1891, Eliza passes away from “Cancer of Uterus” on the 8th of December. A year later, Abraham gets married again to a Susan Clay. They are living in Calverton in the 1901 census, just the two of them but by the 1911 census Abraham is living with is son Henry and his family. On the 27th of November 1912, Abraham passed away and was buried a few days later at the Hucknall Huthwaite cemetery. He died of Senile Decay.

I am determined to find Abraham in the 1881 census, any ideas? He was a framework knitter. His family are all in Nottinghamshire, I have tried different spelling variants but nothing comes up.

I hope someone can help.
